Final Mix Checklist

Before uploading a final mix, we recommend that you work through this checklist.

However, if this is too daunting, just upload anyway, and your mastering engineer will provide feedback if necessary.

  • Your final mix should be in WAV or AIFF format. Most other formats are lossy.
  • Your final mix should not be in MP3 format!
  • Your final mix should be in stereo.
  • Your final mix should be at a sample rate of at least 44.1KHz.
  • Your final mix should be at a sample resolution of at least 24 bits.
  • Your final mix should not peak above -6dB. This is a safety margin for you to avoid clipping.
  • Your final mix should not be too quiet (e.g. below -30dB), or you might pick up the noise floor.
  • Your final mix should not have been generated with any mastering compression on the master bus.
  • Your final mix should not have been generated with a limiter on the master bus.
  • Your final mix should not have been rendered using dithering.
  • Your final mix should be your FINAL mix.
  • If you later submit a new version of your mix, this will be treated as a separate mastering project, but charged at half price.
